Convention Highlights - Day 2

Hello Stampers!  Today I'm going to share with you some highlights from the second full day of convention!  We started off in the main stage area with staff demonstrations again.

Stampin' Up! is always really good at showing us ways to use new accessories, showing us new techniques, and showing us tons of samples and ideas!

We ate lunch after that and we were surprised today with a great dessert!

Kit Kat bars and Chocolate Fondue!!!  Yummy!

During lunch I had to take a moment and have my picture taken with the neat scenery!  How would you like to try to stamp with stamps this big???

In the afternoon we had more breakout sessions.  This is Ellen Richardson and Paula Critchlow in their session.

Tonight was a free night, so my roommates and I spent the evening looking through all of our swaps and laying them out and taking pictures!  It was so much fun!

Convention Highlights - Day 1

Hello Stampers!  Well, Thursday was the first full day of Convention, and what a day! 

Just look at the crowd!  There was around 2800 of us!

  We started off with a show choir performing for us.  They danced and sang our new theme song.  We have a new theme song every year.  They were fantastic and so fun to watch!

 When Shelli started speaking to us she informed us that they had shut down the SU! offices so that the staff could join us on our first full day!  And here they are!

Our morning was filled with presentations and entertainment!  Here are Bonnie Thurber and Jill Kocherhans performing a little dance for us before they stamped for us!  How fun is that?

One of the fun things about looking at all of the display boards at Convention is looking to see if any of your own cards made it on display.  And guess what?  I had two on the boards this year!

The awards night was that evening.  We all love to see what Shelli's outfit will look like!  Gorgeous as usual!

Our entertainment for the evening drove into the Convention center in their tour bus!

It was a country band and they were excellent!  What a fun day it was!

Convention Highlights - Check-in Day

Hello Stampers!  I decided it was time to share some of the memories and pictures from convention with you! 

Here is our logo for the year!  This was on EVERYTHING!

Wednesday was check-in day.  Stampin' Up! offers optional classes for you to register for if you are interested.  Of course, I definately took advantage of all I could get!  We also got the opportunity to see demonstrator demonstrations and tons of samples on sample boards and in displays!

My birthday is coming!

Hello Stampers!  Guess what?  My birthday is one week from today!  I'm going to be.....you thought I was going to tell you how old I'm going to be didn't you?  Not!!!!

Anyway, I love getting birthday cards, and everyone loves getting presents, so I have an idea!  If you send me a handmade birthday card and I receive it on or before my birthday, August 2, I will put your name in a drawing for a free stamp set!  Wanna see the set you could win?

Penguin punch art swap

Hello Stampers!  Well, today I should be on my way back home from Convention.  I know I will have lots to show you, so keep checking back often to see all of my great stuff!

This year for Convention, I signed up for an organized punch art swap.  We were supposed to pick a punch art item.  We placed a completed item plus all of the pieces used to make our item on a 6 X 6 piece of cardstock.  After we all swapped, we would have an album full of punch art items to teach our customers!

 I of course had to make this penguin because I just think he is so cute!  The completed penguin is down in the left corner, and then the recipe for him is all around the rest of the page.

Magnet Board roomie gifts

Hello Stampers!  Well, I'm still at Convention having a wonderful time!  Today is the last day and although I'm always sad to have it come to an end, I'm always totally exhausted and need to come home to rest!

My first Convention was 6 years ago.  On that trip I roomed with 4 great ladies!  We had a blast!  Every year we make what we call Roomie gifts and 6 X 6 scrapbook pages to exchange.  Our group has grown over the years, but we still exchange our gifts and scrapbook pages.  Here is the gift I made this year:

 These are the fun magnetic boards that I have shown you before! 

 I used the Island Oasis designer series paper (117173) to cover the metal boards.  It is really easy to adhere with our Anywhere glue stick (104045).  The magnets are made with flowers from the Baskets & Blooms die (113484) with the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine (113439).  I used my Crop-A-Dile (108362) to punch my holes in the top to insert my ribbon. 

I always put cardstock on my corners to keep them from being so sharp.  I punched out the corners using the Photo Corners punch (119878).  I put the bigger size on the front and the smaller size on the back.

Too fun and I hope they like them!

Punch Art Ice Cream Sundae card

Hello Stampers!  Well, I'm still at Convention learning new techniques and getting great ideas to come home and share with you!

Here is another swap that I took to Convention.

 I like to take some punch art cards to swap.  They usually go over very well.  This year I made the ice cream sundae that we learned in an issue of our Stampin' Success magazine that we received this Spring.  Stampin' Up! sends us a monthly magazine that is full of ideas, techniques, tips, and business information.

Notice the embossed polka-dots on the top of this card?  I did that with my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine (113439) and my Perfect Polka-dot Embossing folder (117335).  I just positioned the card so that only the top was inside the embossing folder and ran it through. 

The sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set (115370).  It was punched out with the Word Window punch (119857) and layered on the Modern Label punch (119849).

The half circle behind the sundae was made again with my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine.  I used the Scallop Circle die (113468) to make the scallop circle and the inside circle was done with the Clear Circle die (114533).

The ice cream sundae is sitting in a half circle bowl cut out with the 1 1/4" Circle punch (119861).  The scoops of ice cream and toppings are cut out with the 3/4" Circle punch (119873) and the toppings is made with the Scallop Border punch (119882).

The ice cream and topping colors are Pretty In Pink with Melon Mambo, Chocolate Chip with Early Espresso, and Vanilla with More Mustard.

Circle Circus birthday card

Hello Stampers!  Today is the first full day of Convention!  I can't wait to get back home and show you lots of pictures of fun stuff that I saw and learned how to do!

Here is another one of the swaps that I took to Convention.

 Don't you love the bright colors on this card?  When I saw that Stampin' Up! was retiring a lot of their Bold Bright colors, I was really worried!  Brights are so me and my style.  But as you can see, I have adapted just fine and am loving the new Bold color combinations!

My main card is Melon Mambo and the next layer is Rich Razzleberry.  The different circles were all stamped with the Circle Circus stamp set (115778).  The colors of ink I used were Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Tempting Turquoise, and Daffodil Delight. 

After I stamped the circles and matted that piece to my Rich Razzleberry cardstock, I used the 1 1/4" Circle punch (119861) to punch out a half circle from the side.  That is where I put my Organza white ribbon.

The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set (115370).

Bird punch card

Hello Stampers!  Well, today I am on my way to Salt Lake City to attend the annual Stampin' Up! Convention!  I'm so excited!  I always have such a great time and come home exhausted and full of new ideas!  Let me show you one of the swaps that I made to take along.

 Don't you just love these colors together?  Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry, and Daffodil Delight!

I used the Two-step Bird punch (117191).  I stamped the wing with the Elements of Style stamp set (118611-w 120045-c) in More Mustard to give it some design.  I then attached it to the bird body with a dimensional.

The Rich Razzleberry piece has been run through the Big Shot using the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder (115964). 

The background has been stamped again with the Elements of Style stamp set in Versamark ink.

The sentiment is from the Oval All stamp set (113790).

King of the Grill Spotlighting

Hello Stampers!  I'm back today to show you another card that we made during this month's card class.  Remember that the technique for this month was spotlighting.

 This time we used the King Of The Grill stamp set (121707-w 120066-c) from the Summer mini catalog.  This is such a fun stamp set and it contains the sentiments of Happy Birthday, Happy Father's Day, King of the Grill, and It's a BTUtiful thing!  How fun is that???

Again on this card we stamped the main image twice on two different pieces of cardstock.  We choose one and colored in a section of it using Stampin' Write markers.  We punched out a section of it with the 1 1/4" Circle punch and layered it on a 1 3/8" circle punched from Night of Navy Cardstock.  Then this is adhered in the appropriate place on the other stamped image.

For the card background, I used the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine (113429) and the Square Lattice embossing folder (119976).  I love the look this gives a card!

Elements of Style Spotlighting

Hello Stampers!  Today I thought I would show you one of the cards that we made at this month's card class.  Our technique this month was spotlighting.

 This beautiful card uses the Elements of Style stamp set (118611-w 120045-c).  I just love this new set.  We actually got this set for free at Leadership in January!  Another great perk of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator! It was then in the Summer mini catalog and now is in the main catalog also.  It makes such beautiful cards without much effort.

To make this card, we stamped the main image twice, on two different pieces of cardstock.  We then picked one of the images and colored in a small section of it using watercolor pencils.  Then, using the 1 1/4" Circle punch (119861), we punched out a portion of the colored image.  We then mounted this on top of a 1 3/8" Rich Razzleberry circle (119860) and then positioned it where it fit in to the other stamped main image.  Sound complicated?  It's not!  This is a great technique when you have an image with lots of details, and you don't feel like, or have the time to, color in the entire image.

Don't get too excited by the polka dot ribbon.  It did retire.  I just love it and thought it went so well on this card, that I had to use it.

The For You sentiment, is from the same stamp set.

Fox & Friends birthday card

Hello Stampers!  Alright Dina, where have you been and why have you not posted any projects in the last several days?????

I have frantically been working on swaps for Convention!  I leave early Wednesday morning and I usually take 300 - 500 swaps with me!  Not this year!  I have around 200 swaps done and I'm about ready to stop.  I have card fronts, 6 X 6 pages, punched items, and 3D items. 

So, you are probably asking yourself if this is something that one has to do when going to Convention?  Heck no!  I just like to have card samples to show around at my classes and parties every month.  You could certainly get by with taking no swaps and just taking pictures of the thousands of card samples that Stampin' Up! so graciously puts on display for us every year at Convention!  There are so many great ideas in samples and demonstrations during the four days that you would never have to come up with a card or scrapbook idea on your own, ever!

So today I wanted to show you one of my swap rejects.

 I sat down and created this one when I was trying to come up with cute ideas.  Isn't it fun?  This card uses the Fox & Friends stamp set (117020 w 118565 c).  I was so excited to see it carried over into the main catalog this month!  It is such a cute set!  The flowers are a combination of the Boho Blossoms punch (119858) and the flower from the Itty Bitty Shapes punches (118309).  The sentiment is from the Family Phrases stamp set (114960).

Did you notice that I even threw in some of the new colors?  The mat around the animals is the new Tangerine Tango and the center of the flowers is the new Daffodil Delight.

Catalog samples supply lists

Hello Stampers!  Have you ever been looking through the Stampin' Up! Catalog and found a sample that was so wonderful that you wanted to recreate it yourself?  I know, lots of times!  But then you really got to looking at the sample and couldn't figure out exactly what colors they used or where they got the bling from?  I know how you can find out! 

On my website, Stampin' Up! is generous enough to supply us with a list of all items used in every sample in the catalog!  I know!!!

Here's how to find it:

Go to my Inkin With Dink website.

Go under the Products tab and click on Catalogs.

On that page find the Stampin' Supplies and click on the Download PDF.

A file will pop up that lists every sample by page number and all of the supplies used for the samples on that page!  How cool is that?
