Hello Stampers! I promised a few days ago that I would show the tutorial today on how I made my
faux ribbon on my scrapbook border. I actually saw Shelli Gardner demo this on a DIY scrapbooking show! Thanks Shelli for the great idea!
1 - Start off with your length of cardstock, mine was 12 inches by 1 inch. Run it through your crimper. Be sure you use a cardstock that is solid color all the way through, like SU! cardstock, and not one with a white core.
2 - Next run your strip of cardstock between your finger and your bone folder several times. I ran it through three times on one side and then flipped my cardstock strip over and ran it three times on that side. This helps break up your fibers in the cardstock.
3 - Next you should be able to split your cardstock into two pieces by carefully prying it apart along one edge. Carefully separate your strip all the way down. If it starts feeling too thin, then start separating again down the strip a little ways and try again.
4 - You will end up with two thin strips of cardstock. They will look a little like corrugated cardboard! The inside feels really soft and fuzzy.
5 - Run your strip of tape where your want your faux ribbon to run. I used SNAIL at first, and so did Shelli, but I found that it wanted to pull off of the SNAIL over time. I would suggest sticky strip.
6 - Use your fingers or thumbs to just crinkle and scrunch the cardstock as you stick it to the tape. This picture doesn't show it very well, since I needed the other hand to snap the picture! Also be sure that you scrunch down the center of the strip too to form what looks like a gathering stitch. It may take you several practice tries to get the hang of it. My first ones didn't look so good, but they definately got better as I went!
7 - This is what the finished strip looks like! I love the look!
I did this look on a card too. I think it gives it an elegant look!
Good luck with this! If you try this out, I'd love to see what you come up with!!! Show me what you make and I will give you a special treat!!!!!
Happy Stampin' and TTFN!
